Nectarios C. Papanicolaou received his B.Sc. in Mathematics (emphasis in Applied Mathematics) from the University of Cyprus in 1999. He continued his studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, earning an M.Sc. in Mathematics in 2001 and his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2003. During his graduate studies he was a teaching and research assistant at the Department of Mathematics. Upon returning to Cyprus in 2003 he joined the Department of Computer Science at Intercollege as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and in 2007 continued in the same position at the University of Nicosia.
In April 2008 Nectarios was elected RTF representative to the Council of the School of Sciences. He was re-elected in April 2010. From September 2010 he is the Mathematics Coordinator.
Nectarios’ main research specialty is the analysis and implementation of Spectral Methods for the Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations. In his Doctoral Dissertation he derived a Galerkin Spectral Method for Fourth-Order Boundary Value Problems. This was applied to a coupled PDE system modeling convective flow in microgravity environments. Nectarios has publications in esteemed journals and refereed conference proceedings. His research interests include:
- Numerical Analysis and Computational Mathematics.
- Fluid mechanics and Mathematical Physics.
- Numerical Simulation of Photothermal Radiometry on Silicon Wafers
-Numerical and Analytic Techniques in Electromagnetic Wave Scattering
